A Journey from Japan to Global Influence: The Story of Takahisa Karita

The journey of Takahisa Karita is not just a story of success; it’s a narrative that weaves through the bustling streets of Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, Japan to the global business stage. Born to a pharmaceutical entrepreneur, Takahisa’s early life was a dichotomy of extremes – affluence and hardship. These experiences shaped not only his resilience but also his unique perspective on life and business. “My ability to make friends with anyone, regardless of age, gender, race, religion, etc., and my mental strength to remain unfazed in any situation may have been cultivated in this kind of life,” he reflects.

Takahisa’s transition from a sports trainer to a corporate executive was not conventional. The bankruptcy of his father’s company and his return to Japan marked a turning point, leading him to join his father’s new venture. This marked the beginning of a journey that would see him at the helm of a bio-venture company, navigating through the challenges of international alliances and economic recessions. His resilience during these times is best encapsulated in his powerful words, I learned to turn challenges into stepping stones, transforming adversities into opportunities.”

Bridging Global Gaps: The Birth of a Unique Platform

Takahisa Karita’s vision for UNIPLAT sprang from a keen observation of a gap in the global entrepreneurial ecosystem. While numerous regional accelerators and support platforms existed, there was a distinct void in international online platforms catering to a diverse array of fields, including humanities and culture, particularly those aimed at addressing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations. This observation laid the foundation for UNIPLAT’s inception.

Before UNIPLAT, Takahisa noticed the lack of a singular platform that provided comprehensive support to entrepreneurs and researchers worldwide, especially those from developing countries grappling with limited resources and financial constraints.

The world needed a bridge, not just for the advanced scientific community, but for every visionary mind irrespective of their geographical or cultural boundaries,” Takahisa reflected. In September 2021, this vision materialized into UNIPLAT, the world’s first online platform dedicated to supporting entrepreneurs and researchers focused on solving the SDGs. It marked a significant step towards democratizing access to resources, knowledge, and financial support on a global scale.

Innovating for Inclusivity and Sustainability

UNIPLAT’s innovation didn’t stop at being a mere platform; it ventured into leveraging cutting-edge technologies to offer unique solutions. Observing the popularity of online tipping services in Asia, Takahisa integrated a similar concept into UNIPLAT but with a groundbreaking twist. The platform introduced the world’s first online cryptocurrency chip for live streaming, videos, and documents. This feature was particularly revolutionary for users in developing countries, where unstable local currencies pose a significant risk. “Our goal was to create a secure haven for assets, transcending the limitations imposed by volatile local currencies,” Takahisa explained.

The integration of blockchain and Web 3.0 technologies further positioned UNIPLAT as a sustainable, future-forward platform. One of its notable services is the PreIP NFT issuance, designed to aid entrepreneurs and researchers in developing countries. This service allows them to issue NFTs as certificates of ownership for their content at a fraction of the cost of traditional patent applications or peer-reviewed publications. “We sought to lower the barriers for these innovators, enabling easier validation of their work and opening doors to investment and support,” he said.

Looking towards the future, UNIPLAT plans to launch its cryptocurrency development and issuance system in 2024. This ambitious step aims to not only further empower its members but also to invigorate the economy sustainably and actively. Takahisa envisions this as a pivotal move in reinforcing UNIPLAT’s role as a beacon of international collaboration and equality. “Our aspiration is to cultivate a platform where innovation thrives, and every member, irrespective of their origin, feels empowered to contribute towards a harmonious and progressive world,” he concluded.

Navigating Business Challenges and Advising Future Entrepreneurs

One of the most formidable decisions in Takahisa’s career was the strategic shift at CDTEC China. Initially, the company’s objective was to sell a dedicated ERP system to kindergartens. However, facing the reality of limited IT management in these institutions, he led CDTEC to establish and operate a kindergarten using their IT system. This pivot not only served as a live demonstration of their services but also revolutionized the educational experience for the stakeholders involved. “This decision, while challenging, became the foundation for CDTEC’s expansion and subsequent success,” Takahisa reflects, underscoring the value of adaptability and visionary thinking in business leadership.

In each of his business roles, Takahisa prioritizes sustainable contribution alongside traditional metrics like revenue and growth. His commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is a key indicator of success. “Our business actions must align with their impact on society and the environment. Profitability is important, but not at the cost of negative societal or environmental repercussions,” he asserts. This principle has guided him in making tough decisions, including suspending profitable activities if they conflict with these broader goals.

Takahisa’s advice to aspiring entrepreneurs and business leaders is to pursue their innovations with confidence, especially when they contribute to the global environment and human well-being. “No matter how unconventional or unknown the technology may seem, if it aids in creating a better world, it deserves to be pursued with vigor,” he advises. His encouragement to emerging leaders is to remain steadfast in their vision, especially when their endeavors are aimed at making a significant social impact through technology.

Unify Platform AG, the entity behind UNIPLAT, is registered in Switzerland, a strategic choice reflecting Takahisa’s vision to build a team that transcends national boundaries. “From the outset, our aim was to attract a diverse pool of human resources from across the globe,” Takahisa explains. This approach is particularly crucial for UNIPLAT, given its members hail from 135 different countries, each bringing unique values and perspectives, especially critical in UIUX development.

Evaluating Scalability and Marking Milestones in Business Success

Takahisa emphasizes the importance of differentiating his businesses from the norm in handling competition. “Our strategy is not to engage in competition at the same level as others but to create unique technologies and services that set us apart,” he states. This approach necessitates CxOs and organizational leaders to possess a broad spectrum of knowledge and the ability to draw correlations across diverse fields. By fostering a culture of innovation and uniqueness, Takahisa ensures that his businesses stay ahead in their respective sectors, offering solutions and services that are distinctive and groundbreaking.

When assessing the potential for scalability and growth in new ventures or investments, Takahisa prioritizes the passion and vision of the founders. “In today’s unpredictable business climate, the adaptability and resilience of the founder and their team are crucial indicators of a venture’s potential success,” he remarks. This approach allows him to identify ventures that are not only viable but also agile enough to navigate the complexities and uncertainties of the current business environment.

Success within Takahisa’s teams and organizations is quantitatively measured through the achievement of departmental, organizational, and individual KPIs. “It’s essential to celebrate successes, big or small, as they collectively contribute to the overarching goals of our sectors,” he notes.
